Helly Hansen Apparel Technology and Features

Helly Hansen TechnologyHelly Hansen makes action utility wear for survival, work and sport. We’ve applied the knowledge gained from many years of working in the harshest outdoor environments on earth to our new gear for outdoor sports enthusiasts. Among our products you’ll find outerwear and layering systems designed to help you perform better at whatever it is you like to do. No matter what the conditions are, we’ll keep you dry, warm, safe, agile and cool.

3 Layer LogoHelly Hansen invented the three-layer system of dressing in the 1970's and we have perfected it ever since. Layering is about performing longer and harder. We achieve this by providing base layers, thermals and outerwear gear that work in unison to keep users comfortable and dry all day.

Proprietary fabric technologies of HELLY TECH®, PROPILE® and LIFA® provide the foundation for the three-layer WeatherSystem of dress, pioneered by Helly Hansen. The WeatherSystem of dress is designed to maximize comfort and performance even in the most demanding of environments. Helly Hansen backs its quality products with a guarantee of 100 percent satisfaction for life.

3 layers

1 - Base Layer

First layer, second skin. Your outer layers are useless without a good base, one that promotes both warmth and moisture transfer. This is exactly what advanced LIFA® technology does – it’s the base of good performance.

HH WARM
For activities involving a lot of stop and go, normally resulting in you freezing due to excessive moisture being built up and then cooled down, HH WARM is the solution. It is a baselayer with two different layers. The inner layer, inspired by the fur of the polar bear, features the unique hollow LIFA® T3 (thermic tube technology) that insulates and allows for superior evacuation of moisture. The outer one features super fine merino wool with zero itch-factor for added warmth.

HH DRY
High intensity activities require maximum transport of extensive moisture. That is what HH DRY does, thanks to its fabric featuring LIFA® stay dry technology ™. HH DRY acts like a second skin, one that promotes transport of comfort stealing moisture off the body and to the next layer, resulting in you feeling dry and able to perform better for longer.

Helly Hansen LIFAHH COOL
HH COOL is the ultimate technical layer for high-energy sports. HH COOL has a bi-component knit to provide rapid moisture transport in one layer. Unlike a close fitting base layer, HH COOL has a looser fit which allows increased venting and comfort for high intensity activities in warmer weather. The fabric does not withhold moisture, ensuring you to be dry and comfortable for better lasting performance.

LIFA
Our LIFA® performance base layers not only insulate next to the skin, but transport warmth-stealing perspiration away to the next layer. No other base layer dries quicker or transports moisture faster.

LIFA®: A versatile performance base layer using Stay Dry Technology. LIFA® functions as a second skin to keep you dry and maintain a stable body temperature. LIFA® comes in Versa, Versa Coolgrid™, Sport and Prowool.

LIFA®Versa: The ultimate Active Single Layer for high-energy sports. Versa has a bi-component knit to provide rapid moisture transport in one layer.

LIFA®Sport: High-energy base layer, offering exceptional moisture control. Used for all sports, year round, LIFA Sport is our most popular high performance layer.

LIFA® Prowool: Thermal base layer for cold weather conditions. Prowool combines LIFA Technologies with merino wool, providing both efficient moisture transfer and warmth.

LIFA® Versa Coolgrid™ Coolgrid ™ technology utilizes LIFA® Versa's superior moisture movement properties in a grid structure allowing maximum airflow between your skin and the fabric.

LIFA® Inside: Products with LIFA-Inside utilize LIFA technology where it's needed most. For example, when used in surf trunks, LIFA might be used as a waistband and on a sock hats, an interior headband. This smart placement of LIFA ensures that moisture is quickly transported from the skin for increased comfort at all times.

2 - Mid Layer (aka Thermal)

The Mid Layer is the second layer in the 3-Layer System. It ensures enhanced insulation and moisture movement from the body. It also harnesses heat making sure you stay comfortable and in the performance zone. It even works when it is wet in comparison to other materials like cotton, wool or down that will cool you down when wet. If this layer is not performing properly, neither are you.

Helly Hansen ProstretchProstretch®
Prostretch® is a short pile stretch micro fleece offering a low bulk mid layer. Used both in a soft double-sided form and the slick hard-faced single-sided construction, freedom of movement is the result, and warmth and comfort on chilly days is something you’ll find very appealing.

Profleece®
Warmer than ProStretch®, our ProFleece® is a mid-loft fleece that is designed to keep you comfortable over a broad range of temperatures. Either on its own, or as part of your layering system, its resilient filament fibers and double-sided construction will never let you down or pill, even after years of hard-core usage.

Warm Core™
Our insulated jackets and pants uses Warm Core™ for insulation. It is a very lightweight and compact insulation that does not effect yours or the products agility.

3 – Protective Layer

The final layer of our 3-Layer System. The outer, or Protective, layer serves as the face of the 3-Layer System; it keeps the elements out, while allowing excessive moisture that has been transported from the base layer and the mid layer, to be released out via the protective layers membrane.
